Program
DAY 1: SATURDAY
In Geneva, you are awaited by the excellent Hotel Rotary MGallery Collection****, just a short walk away from the train station and the shores of Lake Geneva. We will meet up in the hotel lobby at 5pm and will go on a guided round tour through the second largest city in Switzerland, with its unique international Flair. You will then have the rest of the evening to your own disposal.
DAY 2: SUNDAY Geneva – Annecy (37 km)
In the morning, we will leave Geneva by bus and will travel high up onto Mont Salève, Geneva’s local mountain, which already lies in France. If the weather is fine, we will be able to see Mont Blanc. After a refreshing descent, you will be invited to lunch. We will then cycle southwards. We will travel across the gorge of Les Usses via the imposing Pont de la Caille, and then cycle on small side streets to Annecy. The charming Hotel du Palais de l‘Isle*** awaits us, situated directly in the historical centre. Before having dinner in a superb restaurant, you will have time to stroll through the crooked alleys or to bathe in the lake, which is considered to be the cleanest in all Europe.
DAY 3: MONDAY Annecy – Chamonix (45 km)
Today we will be travelling entirely on flat terrain. We will follow the cycle path along the Lac d‘Annecy. The large gleaming water surface of the lake can be seen time and again. Near Ugine, we will enjoy our picnic in lovely nature, before we cycle further to Albertville. The medieval village Conflans can be found above the venue of the Olympic Winter Games in 1992, and can be reached after a short walk. Here we will have a coffee break, before travelling by bus to Chamonix. The comfortable Hotel Excelsior**** awaits us in front of the city gates. The hotel has a small pretty wellness area and a splendid outdoor pool with a view of the imposing Mont Blanc-Massif. We will meet up for dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.
DAY 4: TUESDAY Chamonix – Aosta (15 km)
Today we will travel onto the Aiguille du Midi. A cable car at 3.777 metres in height was put into effect here, which was considered to be the highest in the world for a long time. We change at the intermediate station, and will have reached the highest point of our journey within 20 minutes. The mountain station has numerous viewing platforms, which provide a dream-like view of the four thousands of the western Alps and views of the Mont Blanc summit as well. We will take our time to enjoy this eternal ice, before we travel by cable car again to Chamonix. Our transfer bus awaits us here and will bring us in approx. one hour through the Mont Blanc-Tunnel into the lovely Aosta valley, where we will mount our bikes and cycle in the midst of impressive peaks in the direction of Aosta. In the capital city of the valley, we are awaited by the Designhotel Duca D‘Aosta**** and are welcomed with an appetizer. You will then have the rest of the evening to your own disposal. Enjoy Italian flair on the lively Piazza Emile Chanoux and take a walk through the lovely alleys, offering numerous sights worth seeing.
Please take note: The cable car on the Aiguille du Midi could be closed due to the weather. In this very rare case, we will travel by cable-car onto the Brévent. One can also enjoy a breath-taking view of the surrounding peaks and the Mont Blanc-Massif from 2525 metres in height.
DAY 5: WEDNESDAY Aosta – Saint Vincent (31 km)
In the morning, we will discover Aosta during a guided round trip, before we leave the city by bike. Today, our route always leads along the Dora Baltea, the main river of the Aosta valley. Many of the surrounding slopes are covered with grapevines. The smallest region in Italy only comprises of approx. 500 hectares of vineyards, but the wines are nevertheless widely known and popular. The Moscato Bianco is a rare speciality. We will then cycle further to Châtillon and will arrive in Saint Vincent shortly afterwards, the only health resort in the Aosta valley. Here we are awaited by the excellent Park Hotel Billia**** with its outdoor pool and a lovely view of the Alps (two overnight stays). We will meet up for dinner in the hotel’s fine restaurant.
DAY 6: THURSDAY Round trip Valtournenche (31 km)
In the morning, we will travel by bus into one of the loveliest side valleys of the Aosta valley, the Valtournenche. Our destination is Breuil-Cervinia. In the shade of the Matterhorn, the village is considered as the birthplace of modern Alpinism. From the second half of the 19th century, mountaineers began their journey here in their quest to reach the summit of the Matterhorn. There are numerous legends telling of courageous climbers of the past, who continued their quest in reaching the summit despite their poor equipment, accomplishing one pioneering achievement after the other. We will take the time to stroll through this lovely small place. We will then cycle out of the valley, continually surrounded by breath-taking mountain panorama, past the enchanting Lago Blu, and will continue to follow the valley road, until we reach our lovely hotel again in the early afternoon. There is enough time to relax here, before we meet up for dinner in a pleasant restaurant.
DAY 7: FRIDAY Saint Vincent – Turin (33 km)
In the morning, we will travel by bus high above the valley floor, before we mount our bikes once more. Numerous shepherds live on the mountain pastures of the Aosta valley and cheese is therefore one of the main products of this region. We will visit a known dairy and will try the high-quality specialities. There is rarely a guest who leaves the diary without several of its numerous delicacies. After the tasting, we will follow the Dora Baltea up to Bard. The medieval town centre is dominated by a massive fortification, which played a significant role during the Napoleonic Wars. Afterwards we will take a short bus ride to Turin. The excellent Grand Hotel Sitea***** awaits us in the city centre. We will enjoy our final evening in a well-known restaurant.
DAY 8: SATURDAY Turin
In the morning during a guided tour, we will visit the first capital city of the former Italian kingdom and the seat of the Savoy kings, which awaits you with elegance and Italian charm. Our journey ends around noon in the final hotel, from where the train station is only a few minutes’ walk away.
