Description
A leisurely cycle tour across the Swiss Confederation - from St. Gallen via the original Swiss cantons on Lake Lucerne, past glaciated mountain peaks and the north face of the Eiger - Bern is well worth seeing and ends in the Mediterranean-style Lausanne on Lake Geneva.
Opinion of our tour guide Michele: "Breath-taking views, crystal-clear lakes, cosy towns. A trip that cannot be more diversified, across Switzerland, a great pleasure - especially when riding a bike.

Program
DAY 1: SATURDAY
In St. Gallen, you are awaited by the modern and centrally located Hotel Walhalla****. Your travel guides look forward to welcoming you at the hotel reception at 5pm. We will then take part in a guided round tour of the city. You will have the evening to your own disposal.
DAY 2: SUNDAY St. Gallen - Hurden (44 km)
After breakfast, we will travel by train for approx. half an hour before we receive our bicycles in a small village. The lush meadows of the Cantons St. Gallen and Appenzell are ideally suitable for pasture farming, so that it is hardly surprising that the famous Appenzeller cheese is produced here. Our cycling route leads on small paths along streams and small villages. On a hill, we can behold the Obersee, and will cycle along its shores to Hurden. Here we will be welcomed to the charming Hotel Rössli***. During our dinner together, we will be able to enjoy the view of the lake and the impressive mountain backdrop at the horizon.
DAY 3: MONDAY Hurden - Beckenried (49 km)
We will take a train to gain some hight and take over our bikes at Schindellegi above Lake Zurich. On lonely trails we will reach Einsiedeln, with its famous monastery – a true highlight of Baroque art. The surprisingly large church interior with its rich decoration never ceases to astound. Our route then leads further via a moor to Brunnen, at Lake Lucerne. Here we will travel by ship to Beckenried, and will be welcomed by the Hotel Seerausch***, located directly at the lake. We will then enjoy dinner together.
DAY 4: TUESDAY Beckenried - Grindelwald (32 km)
Today’s journey is dominated by mountains and lakes. In the morning, our cycling route leads from Lake Lucerne to Lake Sarnen. There we will board a train and will travel to Meiringen, the starting point for the journey by bus onto the Große Scheidegg – an impressive ascent of over 1400 metres in height on a spectacular mountain road up to the almost 2000 m high walls of the Wetterhorn mountain. At the pass, an enchanting panorama opens up onto the Eiger Mountain and high-alpine glaciers. At our stage destination, we will be welcomed by the Hotel Derby*** in Grindelwald. We will then end the day over an enjoyable dinner.
DAY 5: WEDNESDAY Grindelwald - Bern (66 km)
In the morning, we will cycle through the deep Lütschen valley up to almost 500 m downhill to Interlaken. The Bern triumvirate of the „Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau“ mountains come into view time and again. In Interlaken, with its hotel palaces from the Belle Epoche period, we will travel by ship which brings us across Lake Thun. In the afternoon, our journey leads on cycle paths and along the Aare River and through river meadows to Bern, where we will be residing in the eponymous BW Plus Hotel Bern**** (two overnight stays). The city’s location at the Aare River as well as its historic centre make it a place well worth seeing. We will enjoy dinner together.
DAY 6: THURSDAY Round trip Bern lake region (56 km)
We will travel a short journey by train into the Bern lake region. With the Jura mountains in view, we will cycle along the so-called „Röstigraben“, the pictorial expression for the language border between the German-speaking and French-speaking part of Switzerland. At Lake Biel, with the lovely small town of Erlach, one can enjoy a swim before our cycling tour continues. During the afternoon, we will reach Murten with its medieval old town, surrounded by its imposing city wall. Burgundian rule over the confederates was finally broken during the famous eponymous battle here in 1476. We will travel the last kilometres back to Bern by train. As lunch on Sunday was included in the travel price, you will have this evening to your own disposal.
DAY 7: FRIDAY Bern - Lausanne (22 km)
In the morning, we will explore the old town of Bern, with a local guide. We will then travel southwards by train. At a small train station in the Canton Fribourg, we will mount our bikes and cycle the first kilometres on small roads through meadows, which are mainly used for dairy farming. On a hill, the magnificent view onto Lake Geneva suddenly opens up, surrounded by a lovely mountain landscape. We will cycle through a sea of vines, the lake always in view to the left. At the end of our cycling day, we will reach Lausanne, where we will be welcomed by the glamorous Hotel Lausanne Palace***** We will end our cycling trip with an enjoyable dinner.
DAY 8: SATURDAY
In the morning, after our hearty hotel breakfast, we will depart on our journey home. As there is nothing on today’s programme, you will be able to arrange your departure individually. Numerous trains travel from the train station in Lausanne e.g. to Zurich, Geneva or St. Gallen.
